Irish Celebration

Sunday, March 10. Doors open at 11am. Dancing and food from noon to 4:30. Beth Patterson Concert at 5:30pm. Tickets for Beth Patterson’s Concert available at the door (or during the day on Sunday at the Haus). Please come.

On the 10th of March, the Sunday Before St. Patrick’s Day, Deutsches Haus will celebrate Ireland’s Patron Saint as they do in the small villages in the Old Country: with a Céilí (a gathering). We will have Celtic musicians, Irish dancers, bagpipers, and other family-oriented activities.

The doors open at 11am, and the opening ceremony begins at noon with an authentic ‘Old German’ handing over the keys to the Haus to the Irish. We then will have Father Billy O’Riordan giving us his blessing in Gaelic, we’ll sing the Irish National Anthem, and raise the Republic Flag, followed immediately by the pealing of bagpipes to proclaim the occasion has commenced.

Between noon and 4:30 we will have the Ryan School of Irish Dance, musicians doing traditional jigs and reels, sing-alongs, the Muggavin School of Irish Dance and end the day event with singers performing a set of Irish standards in a sing-along.

This is a kid-friendly event with children encouraged to participate in the dancing, music and singing all afternoon. Free and open to the public.

Traditional Irish food for sale:

  • cabbage and bacon with parsley sauce
  • Joe Stephany’s now famous Guinness beef stew served over colcannon
  • potato and bacon soup with soda bread
  • (plus nuggets and fries for the kids)

Later that evening, at 5:30, we are proud to present Beth Patterson in concert. Beth, born in Lafayette, studied music at University College, Cork. Later she helped found the Poor Clares musical group and performed at Jazz Fests and appears regularly at Irish festivals and pubs around the country. Tickets for her event can be purchased at the Haus website: deutscheshaus.org or at the door. The price is $15 for Haus members and $20 for non-members. Kids under 12 free. Tickets for her concert are available at the Haus on Sunday until performance time.
