Events are open to the public unless otherwise noted.  Location is 1700 Moss Street in New Orleans unless otherwise specified.  There is always ample free parking in the rear of the building. (link to map)

The Deutsches Haus is now open 6 days a week for regular hours for beverages and food. And we have beautiful grounds with picnic tables and oak trees so you can be outside.

December 2024

Membership Meeting. Friday, December 13, 7pm. Quarterly meeting. For members only. Food service available at steam table before meeting.

Nutcracker Brunch. Sunday, December 15, 11am. A white tablecloth dressy family event. St. Nicholas and Christ Engel will be there to distribute a keepsake Nutcracker to each child 12 and under.  Tickets are $35 per person. *Tickets here*

Kulturabend. Tuesday, December 17, 7pm. The John Rankin Christmas Show. Sponsored by the German-American Cultural Center of Gretna and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Deutsches Haus. Free and open to the public.

Concert. Wednesday, December 18, 7pm. American Legion Post 377 Band Christmas Concert. Free and open to the public. Food and drink available for purchase.

Liederkranz. Thursday, December 19, 7pm-8pm. Come sing along with German folk music. Just for fun.

Concert. Saturday, December 21, 2pm. Danny O’Flaherty’s Celtic Christmas. Tickets required. Haus member $20, Non-members $25. Tickets required for children – no free entrance for children. *Tickets here* Food & drink available for purchase.

Coming to America Lecture Series. Sunday, December 22, 2 pm. Escape from Vietnam by Brother John Mai. While living under a communist regime for 10 years, Brother John Mai attempted to escape Vietnam 14 times. He was caught twice which led to his imprisonment and torture. In June 1985, he was able to break out of prison and flee with his ailing father and some friends in a small fishing boat. This lecture chronicles the challenges and difficulties of his experience, along with the events that made Brother John Mai’s journey to freedom both dangerous and memorable.

Weekly and Monthly Activities

Choir. 1st and 3rd Fridays. The Damenchor (ladies) meet at 7 p.m. and the Saengerchor (men) meet at 8 pm. *More Information* Both groups would love to welcome new members.

Wander Gruppe -Running/Walking Group – Join in for a casual walk or run every Thursday. Choose your own pace & we’ll go for a 2 or 3 mile route in the park or neighborhood then gather at the Haus for Gemütlichkeit. Gather at 5:30 pm, leave for run/walk at 6pm.

Liederkranz – every third Thursday. Just for fun – sing-along with German folk songs. Everyone welcome.
