Coming to America – John P. Doucet, Ph.D.
Gold, Gulf, and Gale: A German Immigration Story and the Great Cheniere Hurricane of 1893.

The Great Cheniere Hurricane of 1893 changed the settlement pattern of coastal Louisiana forever and remains the second most deadly natural disaster in U.S. history.  In this presentation, Dr. Doucet tells the history of the storm and of Cheniere Caminada, the thriving fishing village it destroyed, together with the story of the immigration, orphanage, and oystering life of his German ancestor who survived.
