KINO - Riefenstahl Regie Andres Veiel’s multiple award winning 2024 Doku is the first look at the influential, controversial filmmaker’s life using her own personal estate to take a closer look at her past. Riefenstahl’s heirs’ donation to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation included over 7,000 boxes of scripts, letters, film notes, photos, super 8 recordings, cassette tapes, phone recordings & memoir drafts. Film will be screened in German/English, & subtitled in English. “Sobering & profoundly eerie, a masterful documentary, about political evasion, self-preservation, & the limits of denial.” – Kevin Maher/”The Times” Kino Night at the Haus! Kulturabend - Lecture Mike Larkin presents: The Civil War in New Orleans The Civil War in New Orleans tells the story of the city and region during that most turbulent period in our history. The city fell after only a token defense, so many of the uncomfortable elements of the narrative were deliberately excised. As a consequence, the real life stories of courageous Southern women facing seemingly insurmountable challenges were not adequately told. Similarly, the accounts of thousands of black men and women who struggled to find their rightful place amidst the chaos of war were also not sufficiently mentioned. Missing too are the stories of the thousands of local creole and immigrant men, blacks and whites, who filled the ranks of Union regiments occupying the city. But also largely forgotten was the decisive impact made in this region by locally raised regiments, batteries and battalions that fought for the Confederacy. Many of these soldiers died in battles far from home. Also erased from the narrative were Union soldiers stationed here. The Civil War in New Orleans tells these stories of mostly ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances and how they coped. It is our history and most of it took place in neighborhoods we now call home. Michael "Mike" Larkin is a Retired Lieutenant Colonel USAF. He was shot at in three wars, author of two works; The Civil in New Orleans Book I and Book 2. He has been a member of Deutsches Haus since 2005, co-leading the Main Food Tent during Oktoberfest. He and his wife Paula Fruthaler have been together for 56 years. Coming to America Edward Branley When the French Quarter was Sicilian Between the 1870s and 1920s, roughly 300,000 Italian immigrants, about 90% of whom were Sicilian, came through the port of New Orleans. In When the French Quarter was Sicilian, local author Edward Branley explores the part of the Quarter known as “Little Palermo” from the 1890s into the 1930s. From the riverfront to the French Market, up into the neighborhood, Edward talks about produce farmers, market vendors, grocers, bakers, restaurant and tavern owners, organized crime, and a well-known ice cream maker.

KINO - Der Zinker  - The Squealer Start your All Hallows Eve  off early with our screening of Der Zinker! Based on a novel by British author Edgar Wallace, The Squealer  was one of dozens of successful Krimi Filme  flooding European Kinos during the 1950s & 1960s. Here, our Kommissar Bill Elford (Heinz Drache) is once again on the scene of several murders, but all of whom died from snake bites! Film costars: Barbara Ruetting, Eddi Arent & Klaus Kinski, and will be screened in original German & subtitled in English. FSK: 16  Kino Night at the Haus!
