Adapted from a play by Carl Zuckmayer, this was Germany’s nomination for Oscar’s Best Foreign Film, & stars berühmter Schauspieler Heinz Rühmann (Hurra, Ich Bin Papa!, Die Feuerzangenbowle) as a former prisoner sent away for forgery, who after serving his time, just wants a passport to work as a cobbler in Germany, but cannot obtain one unless he has a job, but cannot be employed until he has a passport!!! Fact: In 1906, Wilhelm Voigt successfully impersonated a Prussian Captain, occupied their City Hall, & had both the Mayor & Treasurer of Köpenick arrested!
