In July 1983, Juanita Landau, an amazing Deutsches Haus force, founded the Damenchor. In those days, the Haus abounded with native Germans who had emigrated after World War I. The women delighted in singing the folk songs they had known and loved since childhood.
Born with a gift for harmonizing, Wilma Brock knew every verse of every song by memory. Just as important as the rehearsal, was the social hour that followed while the men rehearsed. The women gathered with food and conversation until the men finished rehearsing.
The Damenchor Choir meets the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month at 7 p.m. They are always happy to welcome new members.
