The Bier Musikanten is a 5 piece brass band and friends plus an occasional accordion founded in 2020 by members of the Deutsches Haus and established in 2021 with their first appearance at Volksfest. The mission is to play German traditional, oompah, polka, pop, rock, Schlager music mixed with a funky brass sound to create a Gumbo that keeps our joint cultural heritage alive. In short Blasmusik is to Germany what brass music is to New Orleans.
Mixing different styles of a traditional “Blasorchester” with Oktoberfest music, wine drinking songs from the river Rhein area, a classical formation of “Posaunenchor” playing Christmas chorals, throwing in the Saxophone and drums as an ingredient of a Nola Brass Band and the occasional accordion to provide that extra touch of Zydeco, we are having fun with a bit of everything for each season.
Kurrende Brass is a unique musical initiative in New Orleans that combines traditional brass music with community engagement. Musicians of all ages and skill levels are invited to join in playing Christmas carols, creating a festive atmosphere reminiscent of caroling in Jackson Square but with instruments. This initiative emphasizes community participation and enjoyment of music during the holiday season. Participants are encouraged to bring their instruments and join the Haus Band for a collective celebration of music. A selection of Songs will be played as published in “Christmas Time” by Forrest L. Buchtel. You are more than welcome to bring your instrument and join us for this Kurrende Brass. For more information on Kurrende Brass check out the Deutsches Haus Christmas Market schedule or send an email to biermusikanten@icloud.com.

Deutsches Haus Hymn (to the melody of “So lang der alte Peter”)
As long as old Louis at Armstrong Park glows,
As long as the Mississippi through New Orleans flows,
As long as here at the Bayou stands the Deutsches Haus,
So long not dies the coziness in N’awlins never out,
So long not dies the coziness in N’awlins never out.
