Ladies Auxiliary of the Deutsches Haus
The Deutsches Haus was formed after several German men’s organizations united to create one organization. Since these were originally all-male groups, ladies were not invited to join. This gave way to the Ladies Auxiliary emerging to provide women with a way to participate and support the mission of the Deutsches Haus.
We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) cultural organization dedicated to promoting, supporting, and celebrating German heritage, culture, and history at the Deutsches Haus and within the New Orleans community. Our mission also includes fostering friendships among our members and supporting the broader goals of the Deutsches Haus.
What We Do
The Ladies Auxiliary actively supports the community through donations and volunteer efforts, including:
• Funding travel opportunities for local high school German clubs so students can visit German-speaking countries.
• Supporting Kulturabend and contributing to the Deutsches Haus.
• Volunteering time and talents to assist with events and initiatives at the Haus.
We also create family-friendly experiences by organizing:
• The Annual Christmas Party, where we serve as hostesses.
• Summer KinderZeit (Children’s Time), a fun-filled event with activities for kids.
How We Fundraise
Our primary fundraising efforts include selling strudel and homemade cakes at:
• Oktoberfest and Volksfest
• Monthly Trivia Nights
• Other Deutsches Haus events
While we’re often affectionately called the “Cake Ladies,” baking is not a requirement to join!
Membership & Meetings
• Open to all women 18+ of good character
• Annual dues: $20.00
• Meetings: First Thursday of each month in the St. Louis Room at Deutsches Haus
• No invitation is needed—just come to a meeting and see what we’re all about!
After meetings, members enjoy social time, and sometimes entertainment like travelogues or guest speakers. We also hold two semi-annual members-only events:
• Holiday Party (January)
• Summer Social (July)
Additionally, we arrange outings to local places of interest to strengthen our friendships and connections.
