Fall Semester 2026
The Fall 2026 semester for adults begins Monday, August 17 and continues until the week of November 16, the week before Thanksgiving. See the schedule below for the detailed list of classes being offered this summer. Registration is now open. See link to registration page below.
General Information
We follow a three semester per year schedule. The spring and autumn semesters are 13 weeks long, and the summer semester length is 10 weeks. Classes meet once a week for 1-1/2 hours at the Deutsches Haus.
Our curriculum follows the European Language Framework, which divides language proficiency into six levels. At Deutsches Haus, each level is divided into four sub-level classes and we also offer a special topics course periodically for students who want more repetition of the level’s material before moving on. New Beginners – If you are a new beginner student with no prior German experience, register for A1.1 Lower Half. We offer two sections of this first course each semester, one on Saturday and one on a weekday evening.
There will be classes for Children this semester. Further details are posted on the Children’s page. *Details on Children’s page Here*
Important: Classes require textbooks except for Intermediate Conversation. Details on textbook page here. Textbooks can take a few weeks to arrive, so order as soon as you can.

Fall 2026 Course Naming Change
Starting Fall 2026, we have implemented a course numbering change to align course numbers with the textbook numbers. The change is detailed in the conversion table below.

German Language Classes for Adults
The Fall Semester will begin Monday, August 17. All classes will be in person at the Haus. The semester is scheduled for 13 weeks.
All adult classes will end the week of November 16, unless there are make-up classes required due to cancellations. Any required make-up classes will be arranged directly with the teacher. No Monday class on Labor Day, September 7. No Saturday classes on September 5, Saturday before Labor Day.

(Requires completion of B1 level or approval of teacher) For teacher approval, email LearnGerman@deutscheshaus.org, stating your desire to join the class and outlining your previous German language experience. Please also provide your phone number so the teacher can contact you if necessary for more information. We will respond with approval.

FREE AND FUN ACTIVITIES
GERMAN FOLK SINGING
Liederkranz is back! A new opportunity to practice German is a German Folk Sing-A-Long or Liederkranz . Not a German language class. It’s just for fun. With an emphasis of singing songs “auf deutsch”, the goal is to honor the German heritage that is remembered in old German folk songs, with perhaps a passing nod to more current German melodies. Free and open to the public. Just for fun – come and sing. Those learning German might find it helpful for practicing German pronunciation and learning about German culture. On the third Thursday evening of the month. See this month’s schedule here.
A German Detective series on PBS
WYES Passport Members can watch the two season series “Luna and Sophie“ in German with English subtitles. Still available on PBS streaming. Luna Kunath and Sophie Pohlmann are best friends and polar opposites. They are also partners in solving crimes. Set in Potsdam, near Berlin. German with English subtitles.
