Volunteer News! Oktoberfest!
Oktoberfest volunteer forms are open! See below.
Looking for info on licenses to pour alcohol? Look near the bottom of the page in the Responsible Vendor section.
Here are some dates:
- September 26. Work party to prepare grounds and unwrap glassware. Meet by the warehouse.
- September 26, 10am-12am. A Responsible Vendor license is needed to work at any booth that serves alcohol. A class is being held at the Haus (limited seating – registration and payment required). More Info here. Alternatively, you can also take an online class – see the bottom of this page for online classes. In any case you need to get your RV to the volunteer coordinator – details in the section at the bottom of this page.
- September 26, 1pm-3pm. Food Handling class. Optional. More info here.
- September 29, 7pm. Volunteer Orientation. More information here.
- October 3 at 10am or Oct 4 at 2 pm. Cashier training. We’re using new models (different brand) of the handheld processing machines, so please come if you feel you need a refresher. Classes are free, but you must register. Pick your best day. October 3 Class or October 4 class
- October 3. Work party.
- October 7, 13, 21. Schnitzeling! 3 Wednesdays. From Make Larkin: We can use as many volunteers as we can get for breading schnitzels in the Main Food Kitchen (at the warehouse) on all three Wednesdays of Oktoberfest. It is not hard physical work and even older folks who can sit for a few hours and use their hands can help out a lot. We start at 10am each Wednesday morning (7, 14, 21 Oct) and go until at least six pm. People who have done it in the past seem to have a lot of fun, with a lot of gabbing going on mostly about the “lore of schnitzeling.” We can use people who only have an hour or two as long as they don’t mind getting their hands and arms – and sometimes their face – powdered with “schnitzel dust.” Anyone who can commit, have them email Mike Larkin at mikel1066@att.net. But “walk on’s” are also appreciated.

Some tips for the Volunteer Form
- Texts: You’ll get 1–2 text reminders per event (at the same time as emails). Emails include full details like shift times. To skip texts, leave your phone number blank. There’s also an optional box for future promotional texts — you don’t need to check this (we aren’t using this yet). You can also unsubscribe from text messages (see your text). Please do not unsubscribe from emails until after the event.
- Canceling Shifts: To cancel, click “Cancel RSVP” in your confirmation email. To rebook the exact same shift, please email the coordinators to ensure it processes correctly.
- Full Day Sign-Up: Want to volunteer all day? Some booths have a whole day shift from open time to close time. Just click one of those for the day. You do not have to select the smaller shifts for that day if you choose a whole day.
- You can click multiple shifts. You will get multiple emails — that’s normal.
- Questions?: Once you’ve applied, every email and text has a way to contact the volunteer coordinators. Or just email them at volunteer@deutscheshaus.org
Volunteer Forms for Oktoberfest
Volunteer forms are up! Click on the buttons below to explore the possibilities. As shifts fill up, they will disappear from the form. More booths will be added as details are worked out.
Emails: Each volunteer must use their own email address. Sharing emails will cause registration errors (like 2 people become one and the husband has the wife’s name. Don’t do it!) If someone doesn’t have their own email, contact the volunteer coordinators for help at volunteer@deutscheshaus.org . We will add them manually.
Alcohol. We’ve had a tremendous response for the alcohol booths. Essentially we already have more people than spots, but we’re trying to get organized. If you add yourself now, your chances are slim that there will be room. If you’re already on the waiting list, when we check out your RV and get the captain’s approval, we’ll move you off the waitlist into the booth and you’ll get an email. If there isn’t room, we’ll notify you. The Liquor/Wine Waitlist is closed.
Other assignments: Have you been recruited for a booth that isn’t here? Your captain will have a link or please email the volunteer coordinators to get a link: volunteer@deutscheshaus.org
Note: You’ll receive your assignment confirmation when you sign up, and again the day before your shift
Responsible Vendor License
A current Responsible Vendor (RV) permit is required to work in any booth serving alcohol at any Haus activity. We MUST have a copy of your permit on file BEFORE you can be scheduled. Old temporary or expired permits are not accepted — check your expiration date! Send your RV to the volunteer coordinator.
There are online classes (click on arrow points below) and there is an in-person class at the Haus on September 26
Bring a copy (paper or digital) with you when volunteering.

How to Print your Responsible Vendor (RV) License (Click to Expand)
It takes up to 21 business days after a class is completed for the license to be up on the ATC website. Licenses from classes taken in past years are already available. (You may need to create an account on the Louisiana ATC website)
According to the ATC website: Online Printing availability of your Responsible Vendor (RV) permits is currently unavailable. To obtain a copy of your ATC RV Server card, you may a send the request directly to ATCRV@atc.la.gov. In order for ATC to process the request, you MUST in your email the following information: your full name (the name as provided to your provider), your date of birth, and last four (4) digits of your social security number. Failure to provide all required information, or submitting your request to ATC’s complaint line will be rejected or further delay processing of your request.
The ATC website used to be able to print licenses right away. Hopefully, the function will be restored someday.
How to get your RV license on file at Deutsches Haus (Click to Expand)
The Volunteer Coordinator needs a copy of your license to keep on file before scheduling can be done for any booth serving alcohol. Send an electronic copy of your ATC RV license to the Volunteer Coordinator via email, volunteer@deutscheshaus.org. Instructions to print a copy of the ATC license are below.
If you sent a license to the Volunteer Coordinator for a prior festival, you do not need to send it again (until it expires and you renew)
Also, keep a copy of your permit (on your phone or on a piece of paper) with you any day you come to volunteer at the Fest in case the ATC comes for a visit.
Note: Having an RV permit does not guarantee you’ll only work in alcohol booths; you may also be assigned to other areas as needed.
Questions? Contact the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@deutscheshaus.org.

Lawn Team
We’re building a team of volunteers to help with weekly mowing, trimming, edging, and general yard care. The more hands we have, the easier (and faster) the job — and you’ll help save the Haus thousands in maintenance costs!
