Deutsches Haus To Celebrate Maifest

Deutsches Haus, a local non-profit organization that promotes German heritage in the New Orleans metro area, will host a Maifest celebration starting Friday, May 13 from 4-11 p.m., and continuing Saturday, May 14 from 2-11 p.m.

The event is open to the public, at a cost of $5 for adults with children under 12, active military, and first responders getting in free. Maifest will take place at the new location, 1023 Ridgewood Drive, in Metairie. Media attendance is encouraged.

For centuries, cultures have commemorated Spring’s arrival with celebration of food, dance, flowers and song. Throughout Germany this still exists through the annual Maifest celebration, where cities and villages are decorated with colorful drapery and flowers.  In New Orleans, The Deutsches Haus will celebrate Maifest with Live German music, beer, and dancing.
