On Wed., Feb. 20, the Deutches Haus will present a check to The University of New Orleans’ Center Austria program. The donation benefits their summer program, which gives students the opportunity to study in Germany and Austria.
“This program is important to the Deutsches Haus mission,” said Deutsches Haus President Keith Oldendorf. “We were founded to celebrate and cultivate our heritage here in New Orleans, and if we can give students the opportunity to experience Germany firsthand, we’re doing something great.”
Immediately following the presentation of the check, Center Austria and UNO’s 2013 Austrian Students Program is hosting a lecture by Dr. Anton Pelinka entitled, “Obama’s Victory- Lessons for Europe.”
Dr. Pelinka is a Professor of Political Science and Nationalism Studies at Central European University in Budapest. In addition to that, he is a Professor of Political Science Emeritus at the University of Innsbruck.
The presentation will take at 5 p.m. in UNO’s Earl K. Long Library, Room 407.
The Deutsches Haus was founded in New Orleans in 1928 to celebrate and foster the rich culture, musical heritage, language, and history of the German people. For more information about The Deutches Haus, visitwww.deutscheshaus.org or on Facebook at “Deutsches Haus”.
The “Feed the 1st” program is a collaborative effort of the Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association and the Deutsches Haus to provide meals during the Mardi Gras weekend for the officers of the New Orleans Police Department’s 1st District who work extremely long hours during Mardi Gras to keep us all safe.
