A Partnership of SoFAB and the French Market Corporation

French Market, New Orleans, LA

Every Sunday at 2 PM, the French Market Corporation and the Southern Food and Beverage Museum will team up to host a series of free programs that highlight the cuisine and culinary culture of New Orleans. Expect to see cooking demos, food conversations, and musical entertainment throughout the year at the French Market Fare stage in the Farmers Market,  located between Ursulines and Governor Nicholls Streets.

Please contact for more information, and we look forward to seeing you in the market!  The French Market has plenty of great programs going on throughout the year, too, so be sure to check their events page for the latest news. To get a glimpse of what we do each week, be sure to check out SoFAB’s photos on Facebook, where our photographer Stephen Binns captures all the action shots.

Rivertown in Kenner will come alive with German food, music and beer for three weekends in October as the Deutsches Haus hosts its annual Oktoberfest, a longstanding tradition from the organization, which is dedicated to preserving German culture, language and heritage in the New Orleans area.

Each Friday and Saturday from Oct. 11-26, visitors will enjoy music from bands such as Prost!, beers like Köstritzer, and food such as Haus German Meatloaf with carrots and bacon (Rhineland style).  Nearly a dozen musical acts, 16 different beers, and a mouth-watering menu featuring a variety of traditional German entrees, appetizers and desserts will be enjoyed by the thousands of visitors who flock to the festival each year. Novelties such as the Dachshund Race (on Oct. 12) and daily Beer Stein Holding Contest (held every day of the festival) are also crowd-pleasers.

“The City of Kenner is excited to again host the Deutsches Haus Oktoberfest,” Kenner Mayor Michael S. Yenni said. “This top-quality festival brings the most visitors of any single event into Rivertown because it offers fabulous food and fun for the entire family. This will be the third year for Oktoberfest in Kenner and we hope to convince organizers to make Rivertown a permanent location.”

Deutches Haus, chartered in 1928, exists to promote German culture and heritage in the greater New Orleans area.  Forced from its longtime location downtown by the planned construction of a new hospital, the Deutsches Haus makes its temporary home at 1023 Ridgewood Drive in Metairie, a venue too small to accommodate the massive crowds that flock to Oktoberfest each year.  In cooperation with the City of Kenner, Deutsches Haus leaders are excited to hold this year’s event at Rivertown.
