Metairie, LA – The public is invited to a special night of music and dance with the country’s finest German band, The Sauerkrauts, at the Deutsches Haus, 1023 Ridgewood Drive, Metairie, LA, on Saturday July 16, 2011 with two full shows from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m..

The Sauerkrauts are not your ordinary German Band. In addition to using a guitar, horn, and accordion to entertain crowds, they also play tuned cowbells, the musical saw, the hackbrett (hammered dulcimer) and Holz’rnes G’lachter (alpine xylophone). Their repertoire ranges from traditional Alpine folk music and Oktoberfest tunes to modern favorites played with a Polka flare. The Sauerkrauts include Robert Atwood, one of America’s finest accordion players, Christoph Hatcher, former USA Champion yodeler, and bandleader Gary ‘Franz’ Trumet.

Doors open for this family-friendly event at 1:00PM. Admission is $10 for the general public, $8 for Haus members, and children under 12 are free.

The Deutsches Haus was founded in New Orleans in 1928 to celebrate and foster the rich culture, musical heritage, language, and history of the German people. For more information about The Deutches Haus, visit or on Facebook at “Deutsches Haus.”
